Lot Essay
A truly special interpretation of Hermès’s celebrated Arceau L’Heure de la Lune, the present timepiece combines the Maison’s poetic approach to watchmaking with the striking and rarely seen use of onyx for its dial.

Crafted in 18k white gold, the watch retains the ingenious architecture that has made the Arceau L’Heure de la Lune one of Hermès’s most distinctive contemporary creations. Set against the deep, lustrous black surface of the onyx dial, two white enamel sub-dials display the time and date in dramatic contrast. These mobile counters revolve around the dial, gradually revealing and concealing the two mother-of-pearl moons beneath and creating Hermès’s highly original interpretation of the lunar cycle. The resulting composition is both technically fascinating and visually arresting, allowing the richness of the natural stone to take centre stage.

Most importantly, the present watch was conceived as a singular creation for a special client of Hermès. The caseback is appropriately engraved ‘PIÈCE UNIQUE’, while the accompanying certificate, dated 2020, confirms its unique status and records that the timepiece was created under the direction of Philippe Delhotal, Artistic Director of Hermès Horloger. Combining exceptional rarity, an unusual onyx dial and one of the Maison’s most imaginative complications, the present watch represents an extraordinary expression of contemporary Hermès watchmaking.
