HISTORIC SEA CAPTAIN'S DAVENPORT DESK
Mid-19th c. Oak Desk, purportedly made from the wood of the British ship "Minden" on which Francis Scott Key wrote the "Star Spangled Banner" while a prisoner and viewing the British bombardment of Fort McHenry near Baltimore, with pierced and carved leaf scrolled gallery, serpentine front, lift lid revealing an interior fitted with three drawers, with a side-mounted pencil drawer over four Davenport desk drawers, simulated drawers on reverse side, resting on scroll form carved legs and ending on bun turned feet, with additional documents, 37 1/2" high, 24" x 23". Original old dark stain finish, parts of gallery have been restored.
