HISTORICAL INTEREST: a Victorian silver coffee pot together with a silver kettle on burner stand
the first, Martin Hall & Co, Sheffield 1882
Of large baluster form, a hinge cover surmounted by a bird finial, scrolling handle with ivory insulators and bird head spout, the whole embossed with elaborate floral, foliate and c-scrolls, a cartouche inscribed 'PRESENTED BY THE SALTASH & ST GERMANS. Steamboat Company Ltd. Mr W Gilbert SUPERINTENDENT Dec. 1st 1864.', all raised on four pierced scroll feet, together with a Victorian silver kettle on burner stand, George Maudsley Jackson, London 1890 and stand 1891, of circular baluster form, with an inset hinged cover embossed with acanthus leaves and surmounted by a baluster finial, a fixed vertical scrolling handle, an inscription to the front 'PRESENTED TO William Gilbert Esqr AS A MEMENTO OF HIS CONNECTION WITH THE SALTASH FERRY BRIDGE CO by his FRIENDS', and to the back 'Decr.'WG' 1891', gadrooned to the upper body, embossed acanthus leaves enclosing the lower body on a collet foot, the whole on a spirit burner stand, height coffee pot 26cm, weight total 58oz.
