[HITLER ADOLF]: (1889-1945) Fuhrer of the Third Reich 1933-45. [HESS RUDOLF] (1894-1987) German politician, a leading member of the Nazi party who served as Deputy Fuhrer 1933-41. A contemporary printed letter of invitation issued in the name of Rudolf Hess on behalf of Adolf Hitler, one page, 4to, Berlin, 10th December 1940, to Gauleiter August Eigruber, on the stationery of the National Socialist German Workers' Party, in German. Marked as Confidential, Personal and For your eyes only!, the text states, in part, 'The Fuhrer invites you, together with the other Reich leaders and Gauleiters, to spend the afternoon of 11th December 1940, from 15.00 hours onwards, in his company at the Reich Chancellery', further explaining that civilian clothes should be worn and that entry to the Reich Chancellery should be made via the Fuhrer's Chancellery door in Vossstrasse. Bearing a facsimile signature of Dr. Helmut Friedrichs, head of Section for Internal Party affairs in and deputy head of Chancellery of the Nazi party, certifying that the text of the invitation is correct.
