H.L. Piper Metal & Glass Lantern
5 x 6 x 13 inches. A Canadian industrial lantern constructed from galvanized metal, likely tin or steel, with four glass panes. The lantern features a top cowl with a curved, vented roof and a circular wire hanging loop at the peak. An embossed rectangular metal plate is attached to the front of the cowl, reading H. L. PIPER in the first line and MONTREAL in the second line. The front of the lantern is a hinged door with a manual wire latch. Inside, the lantern contains a brass candle socket mounted onto a raised rectangular base. A circular mirrored reflector is mounted to the rear interior wall, designed to project light forward through the glass. The rear of the exterior features a metal mounting bracket for wall or carriage attachment. Rows of circular ventilation holes are located at the base of the metal sides.
