HUANG BINHONG (1865–1955)
Dimensions: 78 cm x 36 cm
A mountainous landscape painted in ink and light colour on paper, mounted as a hanging scroll. Layered peaks, wooded slopes, pavilions and winding paths recede through the composition, while darker brushwork in the foreground gradually gives way to lighter atmospheric passages above. An inscription and seals provide a calligraphic counterpoint to the landscape.
The composition is especially effective in its accumulation of short, textured brushstrokes, which make the mountains feel dense and weathered while still preserving a strong sense of depth and distance.
