Hutchinson was founded in 1853 in Châlette-sur-Loing, 100 km south of Paris, by Hiram Hutchinson.
This American entrepreneur, a recent immigrant to France, had filed the first French patent for rubber vulcanization, which formed the basis for the company’s first product: “A l’Aigle” boots, designed to keep feet dry.
In 1890, Hutchinson shifted to manufacturing bicycle tires.
By 1905, Hutchinson had already turned his attention to the automotive sector.
In 1910, Hutchinson entered the aeronautics industry.
