Hamilton Everest Reissue Ref. 6331 Stainless Steel Quartz Wristwatch with Rubber Strap
Europe, Switzerland, Hamilton Watch Company, likely Swatch Group era, ca. 1998–2010 CE. A stainless steel quartz wristwatch by Hamilton, catalogued as the reissue of the Everest, one of the firm's late-1950s designs, with reference 6331 on the caseback. The polished cushion case swells into stepped shoulders that run straight into the strap, so the watch reads as one sculpted piece of steel. Under the crystal sits a slate-gray dial stamped with concentric stepped squares that pull the eye toward the center. A brushed outer track carries polished dot markers. The open arrowhead hands follow the angular style of the period, and a date window sits at four o'clock. The screw-down caseback has four screws, the Hamilton crest, and the marks "STAINLESS STEEL" and "WATER RESISTANT 50M". The signed "H" crown is fluted, and a gray rubber strap fastens with a steel folding deployant clasp. Size of watch: 1.5" L x 1.2" W (3.8 cm L x 3.0 cm W); band: 6.5" L x 0.7" W (16.5 cm L x 1.8 cm W).
Hamilton was founded in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in 1892 and made its name with railroad-grade pocket watches. In the late 1950s the company drew notice for a series of boldly shaped wristwatches. The most famous was the Ventura, released in 1957 as the world's first battery-powered wristwatch. The Everest belonged to that same wave of mid-century designs, which traded the round case for angular, asymmetric, and cushion silhouettes, partly as a selling point for the new electric technology.
After Hamilton became part of the Swiss group that is now the Swatch Group, the brand returned to its American archive several times. It reissued many of its period designs with modern quartz movements, keeping the original case shapes and hands while adding modern features such as screw-down casebacks, water resistance, and rubber straps. Watches like this one carry the 1950s look in a form made for everyday wear.
