Hanafi (b. Purworejo, C. Java, 1960) Abstract

In this abstract painting, which is multi interpretable, one may see an explosion of the color red. Although it may be seen as forming something, it is hard to decipher what the object is. The painting might not connect with our logical senses, but it should connect with our emotional senses. This painting comes from the collection of the late Adnan Buyung Nasution, a famous Indonesian lawyer and human rights advocate. His select eclectic collection consists of artworks by various Indonesian artists, ranging from the more, humorous artists, like Otto Djaya, to the abstract artists like Made Wianta, Tulus Warsito and Hanafi, to the more serious, senior artists, like Sudjono Abdullah and Basuki Resobowo.
