Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork

There are recurring themes within my work; an ongoing exploration of drapery and rhythm, stages and platforms, communal spaces and memories-a sense of time passing, or staying still, and occasional pops of colour

The dresses series evolved after a research trip to a theatre costume and props warehouse, corridors packed full of crinoline hoops and netting, dresses of all eras; fibres full of stories, but empty of body. Some of the paintings focus in on the rhythms of fancy cuffs, lace, ribbon, trims, and pattern, others highlight how garments flow or provocatively touch each other.

The characteristics of the garments emerge during the process of painting, where the handling of paint is used to create movement, tempo, depth, and sometimes a suggestion or trace of the body.

The 'Readymades' were inspired by hand painted railway model pieces, found in an antique warehouse.I loved the fact they had been painted by some unknown hand, already dressed, and were ready for casting and placing in imaginary worlds.

You must not reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell or exploit any works. In doing so, you endanger our relationships with artists, and directly jeopardise the charitable work we do.
