Superior quality crafted mid 19th century solid coin silver rectangular rounded soap case by Baltimore’s prominent silver manufacturing company Samuel Kirk & Son
The hinged cover and body finely hand embossed with detailed floral decoration.

From the beginning of his career, Kirk employed the technique of repoussé and chased foliate decoration that frequently covered the entire surface of his wares, which was known as “Baltimore-style” repoussé work

Kirk's work includes two silver cups for General Lafayette to commemorate his visit to Baltimore, President James Monroe's flatware service for his daughter's wedding, and a 48-piece dinner service for the USS Maryland that illustrates almost two hundred scenes from Maryland's history. His work is collected in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Dallas Museum of Art, Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the De Young Museum,
