Handcrafted Wooden Scale Model USS Constitution
Handcrafted wooden scale model of the three-masted heavy frigate USS Constitution. The hull features plank-on-frame construction with a natural finish below the waterline and a painted black-and-white finish above. Gun ports are detailed with red interiors and protruding metal cannons. The ship is square-rigged with three masts, fore, main, and mizzen, featuring a complex network of standing and running cordage rigging. The sails are composed of treated, stiffened fabric set in a wind-blown state. The vessel flies three flags including two colonial-style U.S. flags and a striped pennant. Additional deck details include multiple whaleboats mounted on the deck and hanging from stern davits, intricate netting, and anchors. The model is supported by four kneeling cast-metal figures in an Atlas pose with a dark bronze patina, mounted on a polished dark wood rectangular base. 28" H x 38" L x 8" W.
20A
Condition Report:
The model is in good condition with a visible accumulation of dust across the deck, rigging, and sails consistent with long-term display. The fabric of the sails shows some fraying at the edges and a stiffened texture. Rigging appears largely intact, though some lines show slight slackening. The wooden base shows minor scuffs and surface wear.
