Handwritten autograph letter from Auguste RODIN to Jean-Paul Laurens, on letterhead from 182 Rue de l’Université and dated September 21, 1913: “My dear Master, I would have been happy to do you a small favor, but you have taken care of it yourself. I think you have created something beautiful with your memory—so affectionate, so…—of your dear departed wife. With all my heart, your Aug. Rodin.” This handwritten letter by Auguste Rodin is a response to a request from Jean-Paul Laurens for advice regarding the recumbent statue of his late wife, Madelaine Willemsens, which he wished to create and which would be placed in the Chapel of the Agony in the church of Saint-Germain-Fourquevaux in Occitanie; regarding this, he stated: “I wanted the bronze image.” Consultant: Alexis Baude
