Hangoor table/Pembroke table - Louis XVI - Mahogany, Oak - 1790-1800

[ translate ]

A late 18th century so called drop-leaf table, made during the Dutch Louis XVI period around 1790-1800. The Dutch copies are rare and based on the England very popular "Pembroke table" that came into fashion there around 1760. This table is largely made of solid mahogany and the styles and drawer are made of solid oak. Folded the table serves as a side table and flipped open it seats four. If the leafs are expanded two hinged oak wood support bobbins are in the frame, where the table top can rest on. The four wrought iron hinges on which the leafs rotate are original. Three old and well executed restorations to the hanging leafs. At the front there is a single drawer that is constructed with handmade nails and glue. The drawer has the original brass handle with remnants of the original gilding. The table rests on tapered fluted legs with block-shaped end/plinth. The entire drop-leaf table has a beautiful warm deep colour, patina, and a nice satin gloss. Dimensions open; height: 73. 5 cm, width / length: 121. 5 cm, depth: 83 cm Dimensions folded; height: 73. 5 cm, width / length: 83 cm, depth: 49. 5 cm An almost identical model is depicted in the book ‘Nederlandse meubelen - van Barok tot Biedermeier 1700-1830’ by Annigje Hofstede.
