Hans Mautner. An 18ct gold ruby and diamond cluster ring, the domed bombé form cluster composed of openwork wire lobes claw set with circular-cut rubies and single-cut diamonds, to similarly set shoulders, and a tapered four row wire hoop, maker's mark HGM, London hallmarks, 1958, ring size L leading edge
Provenance: A private London collection
Hans Georg Mautner originally set up shop in Vienna, Austria, in 1925, before making his way over to London in 1938. Mautner firmly established himself as a goldsmith in the late 1950s, working for S.J. Rood in the Burlington arcade, and most notably Boucheron, with some rare pieces baring both his maker’s mark (HGM) and the Boucheron signature. Like many of his London contemporaries, he too exhibited his work in the ‘International Exhibition of Modern Jewellery 1890-1961’.
