Hans Retzbach (1887 - 1976) - Oiginal (Probe-)Erstguss der Marienfigur des Ellwanger Marienbrunnens

The figure for sale comes from the private collection/ estate of the sculptor Hans Retzbach. (May 29, 1887 Ellwangen – March 2, 1976 Stuttgart) It is made of plaster and partially glazed brown. Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart (master class Prof. von Donndorf) . Afterwards (1920s) lecturer in sculpture. He created countless Christian objects (figures of Mary, crucified, bell reliefs -1957 ringing Catholic parish St. Eberhard Stgt.) , as well as numerous war memorials and bronze busts/portraits of personalities (including Porsche, Grillo, Maybach, Hitler,. . .) This is a first plaster cast of the figure of Mary from the Marienbrunnen in Ellwangen. The glaze has partially peeled off, part of the thumb of the baby Jesus is missing, as well as a few small fragments (see photos - 3 parts are still available/can be attached) . There are no other casts, only the original. This is an object in very good condition consistent with age (patina and defects described) from the artistic estate of Hans Retzbach.
