Hans von Aachen (Cologne 1552 - Prague 1625)
Adoration of the Shepherds
Canvas glued on panel
56 x 42,5 cm

This artwork of rare quality due to the elegance with which the figures are modelled with the use of monochrome, echoes the lost artwork by van Aachen known to us from an engraving by Johann Sadeler the Elder. This prototype by the German master was interpreted by other artists of the time such as Hendrick Goltzius, to whom the small oil on copper in the Galleria Sabauda in Turin is attributed, and the Dutchman Gaspar Hovic, author of the painting in the church of San Bernardino in Molfetta.
