Hapoel HaMizrachi. ca. 1946.
The Hapoel HaMizrachi party was dedicated to the principles of country, labor, and religion. The flag bearer at center proclaims his commitments to work and Israel, stating, "We will raise the flag of the working, religious Eretz Israel!" The religious men behind him—one holds the Torah—prove that both sides can come together under one larger umbrella. In 1949, the party ran as the United Religious Front in the elections for the first Knesset, and they played a major role in bringing down the first government following disagreements with the Mapai party.
