Rare antique opaline jewellery box | Alabaster glass | Bronze | Uranium | Bejewelled | Harrach, Neuwelt | Bohemia, circa 1860. Very special opaline glass (alabaster glass) jewellery box. Richly decorated with glass 'jewels'. Also called "bejewelled". This box was most likely manufactured in Neuwelt (Nový Svět) , Bohemia. (Current Czech Republic) . Made by the "Gräflich Harrach'sche Glashütte, Neuwelt". Circa 1860. The box is decorated with glass jewels and gold enamel; The handles of the box are made of bronze, like a rope, braided wire. These handles each contain a large 'gemstone', which is made of ruby glass. (Ruby glass) . On the top of the lid is a white opaline glass medallion. This medallion has 2 small chips. Furthermore, it is decorated with gold enamel and 5 smaller gemstones. Of these, 4 are made of blue glass, and 1 of 'ruby glass'. The entire box is also decorated with the smallest stones, made of ruby glass. Around these stones is a pattern made of gold enamel. Some of the smaller stones are missing. Exact number: 10 of the 72. The bronze frame to which the handles and lid are mounted is in good condition. The bronze frame on which the box rests is mostly in good condition. However, it does had to face a little accident. This is/are also made of woven bronze 'rope'. On each corner there is originally a large gemstone. Unfortunately, one of those stones was ever broken or lost after someone knocked over the box. This is visible at 1 of the 4 points where the 'gemstones' must have been. At this point, the bronze 'stone holder' is bend. At first we suspected that there were larger rubies (ruby glass) here. Although there could have been four moonstones here. In the end, one of the previous owners removed the 3 other gemstones. It could possibly be restored, by placing new stones in it. This also applies to the smaller glass stones. (If interested, we might have this done on behalf of the prospective owner.) No key included. ! ! The glass contains uranium, and lights up under blacklight! Thanks to its shape and decorations, an absolute masterpiece! *Height: 11. 5 cm / 4. 53 inches. *Width: 13. 8 cm / 5. 43 inches. *Depth: 8. 4 cm / 3. 31 inches. Weight 609. 3 grams.
