Harry Rutherford, British 1903–1985 - Boats on the river; oil on card, 27.7 x 37.9 cm (ARR) Note: Rutherford, alongside L.S. Lowry, was a part of the so-called Northern School of Artists that depicted the post-industrial landscape of northern England. He was also heavily influenced by Walter Sickert, who taught the artist during the 1920s, this can be seen in the 'twilight' tone of much of his work. Eventually the artist moved to Newlyn in Cornwall where he worked alongside Dod and Ernest Procter. His works are in public art collections including: The Royal Academy, Manchester Art Gallery, The Atkinson Gallery, Gallery Oldham and Rochdale Art Gallery.
