Hassi Messaoud 001 Martian Meteorite Slice Martian (nakhlite) Ouargla, Algeria - (31° 51' 7"N, 6° 58' 35"E) Found: March 11, 2020 This fairly thick, irregular meteorite slab represents the Hassi Messaoud 001 Meteorite. Of the nakhlite variety, this is Martian and was found in Algeria in 2020. While only weighing 17 grams, this thick slice is still rather significant considering the total known weight of the fall was only 75 grams. This rustic slab is cut on both sides but not polished, resulting in an intensely intriguing piece. The shape with rough edges adds to the visual appeal. The igneous Augite contains Olivine crystals accounting for its overall greenish coloration. Meteorites from Mars are, not surprisingly, inherently rare, especially of the nakhlite variety, so this is an extremely valuable specimen. This green beauty from the "Red Planet" is something special. Measurements: 2.07 x 1.57 x 0.20 inches (5.25 x 4.00 x 0.52 cm), weighs 17.1 grams HID09710052018 © 2022 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
