Note: Henry Hastings, 3rd Earl of Huntingdon (1536-95), was an heir to the throne through his mother who was descended from George, Duke of Clarence, brother of Edward IV. He was discussed as a possible monarch to keep out Mary Queen of Scots when Elizabeth was thought to be dying of smallpox. A protestant, he was placed in charge of Mary Queen of Scots in 1569-70. Leathley is near Otley, North Yorkshire.
