Haxtun Ottman & Co. Salt Glaze Jug
An American salt-glazed stoneware jug featuring a classic ovoid body and a hand-applied strap handle. The shoulder is marked with two lines of impressed text highlighted in cobalt blue: HAXTUN OTTMAN & CO. above FORT EDWARD N. Y. The front is decorated with a slip-trailed cobalt blue foliate design, characterized by a central spiral surrounded by a series of dots and a feathered leaf motif extending to the right. The base displays circular wire-cut marks from being removed from the potter's wheel during the manufacturing process. A dark brown slip or glaze is applied to the upper rim and interior of the mouth.
