Eventually he got so jealous he game the film studio an ultimatum: they either got rid of the co-stars or he would stop making films. The studios met his wish; though Marriott was at the end of his career, Moffatt was only in his 20's and his career never recovered. The fact that Marriott and Moffatt have signed across Hay's face is most likely a show of the growing antagonism between them.
