Sven Anders Hedin was a Swedish explorer and geographer. In 1885, he went to Persia as a tutor and was attached to a Swedish-Norwegian embassy to the Shah in 1890. He made many journeys into uncharted areas, particularly in the Himalayas (1893-1898), the Gobi Desert, and Tibet. His accounts contain much information on the local peoples' way of life and numerous black-and-white photo plates, taken by Hedin, as well as reproductions of some of his sketches.
Condition Report: Touches of wear along edges and corners of boards; textblock marginally toned, map of turin river has miniscule edge tears and creasing and tears along folds, a third of the map is loose and laid in, map of Tibet has a small stub tear, tears at intersections of folds, and two along folds, plus longer 5 inch horizontal tear, no loss to maps; very good.
