The “Beginner Books / I Can Read It All By Myself” with the Cat in the Hat logo was a book club for the early readers founded in 1958 by Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel). Points of the early, 1960s printing: copyright 1962 without any other printings listed, no isbn, no barcode. [See photos].

Hard boards, illustrated front board [some wear]; 6.3/4” x 9.1/4”; illustrated endpapers, “Nancy / Grade Three / age seven” is ‘colorfully written opposite the title page [see photo], 64 pages, fully illustrated; some wear, very good condition.

Joan Heilbroner is best known for her first book, Robert the Rose Horse, which was published in 1962. Acquired by Dr. Seuss when he was editor of Beginner Books, it has been in print for more than 50 years. A graduate of Columbia University, Ms. Heilbroner worked as a school librarian until her retirement.
