Heindrick Gerritsz Pot (Dutch, 1585-1657) Oil on Wood Panel, Ca. 1611-1630, "Man with a Flute And Red Velvet Hat", H 12.25" W 10" | 1/2 length portrait of a gentleman holding a flute in his right hand. Signed in the artist's monogram HP lower right. Period frame. for at least a century, this work was attributed to Govert Teuniszoon Flinck (Dutch, 1615-1660) due to its attribution as such on the period frame. However, upon removal of the painting's original varnish, the HP monogram of Heindrick Pot was then visible in the lower right. Provenance: From the Estate of Prominent Collector, Leon Zielinski, Macomb County, MI. Purchased DuMouchelles, 6-23-1991, lot #2059. Collection of Robert Gray Kales (1904-1992), Grosse Pointe Farms, MI. Captain Kales was a graduate of MIT and Harvard University. He served as a pilot in WWII and is best known as a Detroit, MI based philanthropist, industrialist and President of Kales Kramer Investment .
