Helene McKinsey Herzbrun
(American, 1922-1984)
Untitled (Yellow and Pink)
Oil on linen mounted on board
Signed Herzbrun l.l. (with loss to signature)

Note:
Helene Herzbrun was a second-generation abstract expressionist who taught painting at American University for twenty-five years. This is a wonderful example of the bold color and gestural brushwork that was her hallmark.

Notably, Herzbrun was one of the founders of the highly influential Jefferson Place Gallery, an artist's cooperative founded in 1957. Jefferson Place was instrumental in promoting luminaries of the Washington arts scene, including Gene Davis, Willem de Looper, Sam Gilliam and Paul Reed, among many others, before closing its doors in 1974.
Dimensions: 30 x 36 in (76.2 x 91.4 cm) Artist Name: Helene McKinsey Herzbrun Medium: Oil on linen mounted on board

Condition: Under black light: with no restoration. With loss of pigment at signature (see photos); mat is mounted to edge of linen.

As a courtesy, condition reports for any lot are available from Weschler's prior to the sale, upon request. Such a condition report should in no instance replace first hand inspections by a prospective buyer or his/her agent. Any description of a lot’s dimensions and weights is approximate. Descriptions we make about lots may not describe all faults or restorations.

All property is sold "As Is" in accordance with the terms set forth in paragraph 1C of Conditions of Sale.

Neither Weschler's nor the Consignor makes any express or implied warranty or representation as to the condition of any lot offered for sale, and no statement made at any time, whether oral or written, shall constitute such a warranty or representation.

Weights given for stones we offer for sale are based solely on measurements and known gemological formula; they are approximate, not exact. Weight may differ once a stone is removed from its setting. You are advised to verify weight estimates prior to bidding at auction.

While we do our best to protect the framing on the artwork, we will not be responsible for damage, regardless of cause.

Weschler's will not remove an item out of its frame for shipping purposes once the lot has been sold. It is the purchaser's responsibility to find a third-party shipper who specializes in fine art handling for these cases.
