Hellenistic Gold Pendant Necklace
3rd-1st century BC. A gold pendant with cylindrical body ornamented with a medial band of shallow pellets, smaller granules above and below, openwork basket frame with scrolled handles and waisted neck above, likely imitating an amphora-shaped vessel, red carnelian bead below; suspended on a restrung necklace composed primarily of later opaque black glass beads. 7.41 grams, 41cm (16 1/4"). Ex important Japanese collection of jewellery, 1970s-2010.
