Hellenistic Greek Polychrome Figure of Nike

Ancient Greece, Hellenistic, ca. 4th to 3rd century BCE. A finely rendered painted terracotta Nike, the winged goddess of victory, speed, and strength, quite pretty with delicate facial features, a red wavy coiffure pulled back with a headband, and a voluminous flowing chiton draped over her left shoulder and cascading behind her legs. She stands or perhaps softly alights to a contrapposto position, her body displaying a classic weight shift, and holds a large palm frond in her left hand. Custom stand with red velveteen covered support. Size: 4.625" H (11.7 cm); 6.125" H (15.6 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: East Coast collection, New York Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010
