[ translate ]

Heading:
Author: Hemingway, Ernest
Title: Concluding the Christmas Gift - Part II
Place Published: New York
Publisher:Look Magazine
Date Published: [1954]
Description:

Ten folio pages printed on the rectos only, stapled at top edge and laid in a printed paper portfolio, comprising the text of Hemingway's account of the crashing of his airplane in the African jungle. Illustrated with photographs of the author and his hunting party. Stamped "Advance Press Sheets" on the portfolio cover; housed in a custom-made cloth chemise with morocco cover label lettered in gilt.

Look published the extended essay in its April 20 and May 4, 1954 issues after distributing these portfolios for purposes of publicity. The included front cover of the original mailing envelope for this copy is postmarked April 12, 1954, clearly establishing these sheets as the first appearance of the essay. Thus, an unrecorded "A" item, as much a primary text as two other magazine offprints, "Voyage To Victory" (Grissom A19) and "Safari" (Grissom A26). Very scarce.
Condition Report: Some edgewear and toning to outer portfolio; contents fine, or nearly so.
