Brandtsoen rarely produced more than six paintings a year, so that his oeuvre consists of barely a hundred paintings. Most of them have been sold to Dutch and Belgian private individuals. Partly due to his small oeuvre, his fame has been limited to a small circle of enthusiasts. For these exceptional still lifes by Brandtsoen, I refer to "Galerie Lieve Hemel" where you will find a Memoriam and the article "Ode aan de zeventiende Eeuw" by Drs Arlette Kouwenhoven. Brandtsoen withdrew into the glorification of the seventeenth century still life, which to him, was the ultimate goal of his life. The final result was an intimate stylization, a metaphorical language, that paired classic values with fresh twentieth century accents. He copied the art of setting up his panel from the great masters in museums, a minimum of 3 base coats with sanding and drying, it took him no less than 18 months before he started his work. His final work of art with oil paint was applied with soft watercolour brushes to obtain a smooth and even result. The edges of the frame are finished with white gold leaf. Provenance: 3.
