Beautiful original engraving in I state, before the addition of the second number on the right, with very small margins beyond the beat, on laid paper with watermark, in very good condition, visible traces of folds on the reverse (see photos) . Plate 19, number bottom left, from the series of 52 from "Ovid's Metamorphoses", one of the 40 invented by Hendrick Goltzius engraved in his workshop between 1589 and 1590. Below the image Estius Latin inscription of two lines on two columns "Eripit e . . . / . . . nate potes. " Depicted a landscape with the shepherd Argos asleep at the foot of a tree on the left, while Mercury at his side raises his sword to kill him, a cow and a dog on the right, in the background Era walking towards his chariot.
