The complete series of three numbered engravings: Minerva, Venus and Juno. On of the most attractive sets of the master. Formerly attributed to Jan Saenredam (Hollstein 63-65), but now attributed to Hendrick Goltzius (New Hollstein 141-143)
Dimensions: 34,10 x 25,20 cm Artist Name: Hendrick Goltzius Literature: Pallas (Minerva / Athena), whole-length, seated in a cloud wearing a helmet and holding a lance and shield embellished with the head of a Gorgon; at right is an owl; beyond she rides a chariot; beneath the cloud she is with the nine muses and Pegasus flys off; an oval design with decorations in the corners (at top left are musical instruments and at top right painting equipment while below is weaponry). 1596 Lettered below Minerva's foot "Cum privil. Sa. Cæ. M. / Anno 1596". Below the oval "HG". In the margin in a cartouche a dedication to Johannes Barvitius, privy councilor and secretary to Rudolf II. With two columns of text, each two lines on either side of cartouche "Quecunq[ue] in terris ... chara Deo" by "C.Schoneus". Numbered in lower right corner "I."
