[ translate ]

Art Deco bronze sculpture of a naked bather, Bain de Champagne Caron signed Georges Chauvel, 1926 with the foundry stamp of Henri Rouard fondeur Paris.
Very nice patina.
\r
This image is illustrated in:
Bronzes, sculptors and founders, H. Berman, Abage.
This elegant bronze statue depicts a young woman dipping her toes in a champagne bath. Chauvel was asked to create this characteristic 1920s bronze for the famous Parisian perfume house Caron as an advertisement for their opulent fragrance Bain de Champagne or The Bath of Champagne. First conceived in 1923, the perfume was said to have been tailor-made for an American millionaire who, no longer able to take his regular champagne baths, needed a replacement.
Renamed Royal Bain de Caron, the fragrance is still made by the same perfumers.
The current nude, with her close-cropped hairstyle and hanging folds of drapery, conveys a sense of the fashionable decadence of the 1920s.
