Maps colored in outline or full color, all maps first state. (Folio) 27.5x24 cm (14¾x9½") bound in black morocco decoratively blindstamped, rebacked with gilt decorated black calf spine; marbled edges. First Edition.

This atlas was issued in parts between Jan. 1838 and Aug 1848. This volume is clearly made up of a gathering of parts. Berghaus's atlas is considered the first and one of the finest of such atlases. A first edition in which all plates are first issues is rare.
Condition Report: General light wear to leather with some peeling and a bit of loss at joints, rubbing to extremities; initial pages with some finger soiling, toning and foxing to text and margins and backsides of plates, occasional offsetting; very good.
