Technique: Oil on canvas\Signature: Hand signed\Dimensions: 158_107_11_cm
Exceptional pictorial work. 19th century, second half. Signed Henriette Brown and written on the back of the canvas by the artist. Work acquired in Pairs (France) . Private collection. In very good condition. The canvas has a seal showing its Paris origin. It represents the return from mowing at sunset, a work made by Millet in smaller size. As a woman, she wanted to do it even larger to demonstrate her pictorial capacity. She was a woman at a time when it was very difficult for women to be recognized as artists. Henriette Brown was Sophie de Bouteiller’s (1829–1901) pseudonym. She was internationally recognized for her unconventional approach to Orientalism and she specialised in genre scenes. Her scale, realism and frontal presentation of the figure were unusual features for the time. In 1862, she was one of 3 women included as founding members of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris. The photos with the highest light are the natural ones Her works are present in important museums in Europe and the USA. An extraordinary work and an unique occasion to acquire it. The packaging will be professional and suitable for the piece, with tracking number and shipping insurance. #exclusiveartweek
