Henry Scott Tuke RA, RWS, NEAC (1858-1929)

In an overall good and original state of preservation. Covered in a thick layer of dirt and discoloured varnish. Slight stretcher shadow. Isolated patches of fine but relatively pronounced areas of cracquelure across face. The varnish has deteriorated and has an opaque-like quality which is particularly evident across some of the darker pigments and tones of the background and dress. These areas also have cracquelure which is essentially stable. Very minor buckle to lower right-hand corner canvas, minor rubbing to edges. Essentially circular loss to lower right-hand corner which has been infilled. A further Vertical band with further infilling and strengthening from lower right-hand corner along right-hand side edge approx 3cm at the widest point and 10cm in length. A further patch of infilling to loss just above lower left-hand corner approx 1.5cm at the widest point and 3cm in length. Patch of retouching to upper left-hand corner approx 1cm diameter. Various losses to gesso frame. Odd very superficial surface scuff etc.

Provenance; Presuumbly commissioned directly from the artist. The sitter is a direct descendent of the vendor.
