Hereke
ca. 1900, 186 x 108 cm, North West Anatolia
Antique Hereke rugs bear no resemblance to the commercial production of superfine silk rugs in the 20th and 21st centuries. Probably woven around 1900, this rare example emulates the design of a Persian Kashmir shawl from Kerman.
Condition
Low pile. Both finishes somewhat reduced. Backed with a textile band all around.
