Heriz, Iran, c. 256 x 276 cm
19th century. This important Northwest Persian carpet with almost square dimensions was published as early as 1971 in R. Hubel's "Book of Carpets" (p. 175), before it was presented on the German market a decade later. The light-coloured flower medallion with a dark centre is adorned with flower tendrils and held by warm red spandrels in the middle of the knotted artwork. An impressive expressive masterpiece of the finest colour and design quality. Minor traces of use and partly reduced pile, in original condition. Cf: Franz Bausback, Alte und antike orientalische Knüpfkunst, Mannheim 1983, p. 79.
