Heriz
Late 19th century, 360 x 287 cm, North West Persia, Azerbaijan
The central medallion design of this antique Heriz is largely woven in pastel shades. A discrete white shield form with stepped outlines lies on a dusky pink ground filled with spaciously arranged, geometric stems and flowers. The red-ground, hexagonal central medallion has two pendants composed of large, light green leaves and four red palmettes branching away from its sides. It contains a smaller, light blue medallion with an arabesque outline and a cruciform floral interior drawing. In the red-ground main border, large two-dimensional palmettes are linked by a straight-lined vine. – Slight signs of age and wear, small repairs and inserted sections, good overall condition in view of its age.
