Herman Brood
Hermanus (Herman) Brood (5 November 1946 – 11 July 2001) was a Dutch singer, painter, pianist, actor and author. Brood distinguished himself by his distinctive singing voice and musical diversity. An anecdote about his boyhood is that in 1953 Brood's family doctor is said to have stated that Brood, with his colour blindness, could become anything but a painter. After Brood's death, the Cobra Museum in Amstelveen held its first retrospective of his work in 2002, as well as photographs taken by his friend, the photographer Anton Corbijn. Previously, Brood's work had never been recognized in museums, although his work had been shown to the public much earlier, such as between 8 and 22 November 1984 in Groningen. [8] However, there were many enthusiasts and his paintings sold well.
