A Gentlemans Chronograph Wristwatch

Switzerland, Saint-Imier, 1950s, LEONIDAS

18K yellow gold (750/-), stamped. Dial lightly stained.

Diameter 40 mm. Circa 55.55 g.

Round case. Silvered dial, signed Leonidas Fab. Suisse, black baton hour markers, minute divisions with 1/5th second indications, blue outer tachometer scale, subsidiary dials at 3 and 9 for constant seconds and 30 minute recording, blued steel leaf hands. Signed 17-jewel manual wind movement. Black leather strap with metal buckle.

Leonidas was founded in 1843 and became well known for producing very high quality chronographs. In 1964, Leonidas merged with Heuer forming the Heuer-Leonidas brand, whose name is also synonymous with the production of chronographs and stopwatches of the highest quality. The current watch is from the fifties and is therefore referred to by collectors as "pre-Heuer". It is a rare collectors item in very good condition. The large dimensions of the case are also unsual for the era.
