The Highland Park distillery is located on the Orkney Islands north of mainland Scotland. Arrived by ferry at the town of Stromness it is a 20 minute drive to the distillery of Highland Park. Every drop of this Highland Park single malt whiskey alludes to the elements with which you are confronted on the remote and wind-ridden Orkney Islands, where this whiskey is distilled. Highland park 40 years old is a very limited and exceptional whiskey. It is the oldest whiskey in the beautiful assortment of Highland Park. The whiskey has matured for a long time on refill casks and because of this long-lasting ripening this Highland Park 40 years old has reached a perfect balance. Jason Craig, the export manager of Highland Park said that because of the foresight of the previous owners, Highland Park is blessed with very old whiskey supplies. Tasting note. Color: full of gold. Nose: intense fruit aromas that are beautifully balanced with the characteristic heathery and peat tones of this distillery. Then the aromas are released from liqueur, apples, pears, honey, raisins, heather and sherry notes. All these aromas together form this wonderful character of whiskey. Taste: firmer peat and marine tones than those of the 20 and 30 year old Highland Park, with long and for 40 years very powerful aromas with sherry tones and light tones of sulphite (gunpowder) and melting in the long finish light tones of oak beautifully together with the aromas of taste with now also released aromas of chocolate and orange peel. This 40-year-old Highland Park bottling is therefore seen as a masterpiece.
