Hinagata screen (byobu) - Lacquered wood, Paper, Silver-leaf - Bird, Landscape - 6-panel hinagata byobu screen painted with pheasants, pine- and sakura trees near a winding river - Japan - Meiji period (1868-1912)

A lovely six panel hinagata byobu screen with a painting of a pair golden pheasants 錦鶏 (kinkei) in a lush landscape. The pair pheasants (symbols of imperial elegance) stand together on a rock beneath a robust pine tree. Behind this pine tree you can see some parts of a cherry blossom tree in full bloom. The trees and birds are on the bank overseeing a wild and winding river which flows along the entire painting. On the horizon in the distance there are some evergreen hills visible. The top and bottom of this scene is overlapped by silver clouds. Considering the age, which is approximately 120-150 years old, in very good condition. There are some signs of age, wear and some old repairs, but no outstanding defects. Please check the pictures as a reference. The painting is surrounded by a dark blue brocade border with a star and flower design, and protected by a black lacquered wooden frame with its original hardware (one corner piece missing) . Total width 131. 8 cm (2 x 22. 7 cm and 4 x 21. 6 cm) , Height 48. 8 cm. This screen is light in weight and can also be easily mounted flat on a wall and presented as one piece of art. When shipped we will add a certificate of authenticity.
