Carved in copper. - Amsterdam, Pieter Mortier, 1700 - first edition - 2 parts in 3 volumes (Old Testament: 1. 1 and 1. 2, New Testament: 2) - (20) + 1-128 / (2) + 129- 282 + (8) / (28) + 163 + (12) + pp. + 3 double-page cards with explanation + all 200 (!) full-page picture sheets - half-leather bindings; spines with rich gold print and title shields - 46 x 29 (!) cm (so-called ELEPHANTS-FOLIO format!)

Condition: very good - neat bindings (bare edges) with solid joints; Remarkably neat, crisp and white pages (just some usual stray small spots and light soiling, very light moisture stain in top corner in volume 1. 2, otherwise very neat and crisp paper!) . Completely!
NB: photos are quite dark due to twilight, paper is actually crisp and white.

This picture Bible is known as "The Great Bible of Pieter Mortier".

Unique: these copies form a 3-part series with 3 separate title pages and the 2 title engravings. This version is very rare because this picture Bible actually only occurs as a 2-part set bound in 2 volumes.

Equipped with 3 large double-page cards and all 200 full-page picture sheets:
a total of 400 large copper engravings!

The copper engravings are sharply printed and very detailed, true works of art!

This large illustrated book, a traditional must for bibliophiles, also includes the esteemed translation of David Martin. Pastor of Utrecht (1639-1721) . 400 compositions etched under the direction of David van der Plaes by the best artists of the time - including 216 tipped-in plates and 5 double maps.

All these compositions were etched under the direction of the Dutch painter and aquafortist David Van der Plaes (1647-1704) after the best artists of the time such as Bernard Picard (1673-1733) , Jan Goeree (1670-1731)
