Höfner - 185 - Bass guitar - Netherlands - 1963
This original Hüfner bass was restored and provided with new original cartridges and the electronics have also been replaced. The arm has been completely flattened and adjusted and the frets have been replaced. The strings are new, and the interesting bass is therefore in very good condition. This Hüfner was introduced in 1962 and was meant as the most important two pickup bass for the British market replacing the Hüfner “Solid Bass” 182 model. The model was called the 185 model.
. The “offset waist” body design and the large strip fret markings made it a very appealing instrument which was used by numerous well-known bands from the United Kingdom and later throughout Europe. All editions were in the colour red lacquer. One bolt - one single piece neck was used along with a separate rosewood fretboard. The electronic controls were common with a rotary knob for volume and tone control for each pickup. This model from 1963 was the first model that was made with two separate pickup slider switches mounted on the high side of the pickguard next to the four dials.
