Holy Land Incised Limestone Cosmetic Bowl / Mortar

Ancient Near East, Holy Land, late Bronze Age, ca. 1550 to 1200 BCE. A fabulous, hand-carved cosmetic bowl or mortar of hemispherical form with a heavy, flat base, thick walls, and a broad rim surrounding a shallow central basin. The rim of the vessel is skillfully incised with a minimalist design comprised of concentric rings and gridded patterns that encircle the basin. A series of 4 petite nubs line the periphery of the dish. Size: 3.7" Diameter x 1.3" H (9.4 cm x 3.3 cm)

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-private prominent D.K. collection, New York, USA, acquired in the 2000s
