Holy Land Juglet + 12th C. Khmer Sprinkler Vessel
Near East, Holy Land, ca. 1st millennium BCE; Southeast Asia, Cambodia or Thailand, Khmer Empire (Angkor culture), ca. 12th to 13th century CE. A lovely pair of redware vessels: a juglet from the ancient Holyland and a sprinkler vessel from the Khmer Empire. Enveloped in rich encrustations reminiscent of the ancient world, the Holyland juglet presents a bulbous body, a rounded shoulder, an attenuated neck, a gently flared rim, and a ribbon-form handle connecting neck to shoulder, all sitting upon a round yet stable base. Alternatively, the Khmer sprinkler vessel displays a pedestal foot, a wide hip, and a dramatically sloped shoulder that tapers to an elongated neck and a discoid sprinkler head with a convex top, 6 perforations, and a narrow rim. A series of 3 horizontal registers of dashed, incised striations adorns the broad hip of this wonderful example. Size of largest: 2.8" Diameter x 5.1" H (7.1 cm x 13 cm)

Condition Report: Juglet has a few stable hairline fissures to body. Both have some minor nicks and abrasions, commensurate with age. Otherwise, both are intact and excellent with impressive remaining detail on sprinkler vessel and great encrustations to juglet.
