1856 (5 May) entire commercial letter (written in Spanish) from Whampoa to Hong Kong in the early days of the Second Opium War, marked "urgente" and bearing a fine strike of "Forwarded by/Thomas Hunt & Co/Whampoa" in red, carried by private ship and with ink brush stroke delivery characters.
The British Postal Agency was closed in January 1856 during the rioting by Taiping rebels and the merchants moved to Whampoa for trade. A very desirable cover. Photo
